This project involved the installation of a steam turbine for a process plant in Mt Isa. Oracle was originally commissioned to perform a feasibility study for installing a steam piping system over an extended distance for 'export' steam.
After careful analysis however, Oracle showed that there was more value for the customer by generating electricity as opposed to exporting steam and importing power. Oracle were therefore commissioned to undertake the complete design and detailed project engineering for the plant comprising a 10MW steam T/G set, condensing system, cooling tower, high pressure steam piping, turbine steam bypass system, high and medium voltage electrical systems, instrumentation and controls plus all civils, structural and architecturals.
The plant was designed and configured for operation, including start up and shutdown, from a remote location and with minimal operator input. The plant was commissioned under Oracle's supervision in the 3rd quarter 1999 and is operating successfully.
